It's hard to top the classic sugar cookie.

Ingredients:

2 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F.
  2. Mix together flour, baking powder and baking soda in a small bowl; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Add egg and vanilla to butter mixture; beat to combine. Slowly blend in dry ingredients.
  4. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake, until golden, about 8 to 10 minutes. Remove cookies from oven and let stand on cookie sheet for about two minutes before removing and transferring to wire racks to cool.
