The Sweetest Month of the Year

Did you know that August is National Peach Month? The title was given by former President Ronald Reagan back in 1982. It’s easy to see why a whole month was given to peaches, they’re juicy, aromatic, remarkably sweet, rich with vitamins A & C and natural fiber. Peaches have a long history dating back to 6000 B.C. in ancient China. During that time, peaches were considered a luxury food, primarily eaten by emperors and royalty. The sweet fruit gradually made its way across the world through trade and gifting, and eventually landed in the Americas around the 1500’s by way of Christopher Columbus. Whether they’re enjoyed as a snack, blended into a fruit smoothie, or baked into a yummy treat or lightly grilled and served with a scoop of ice cream, there are so many ways to enjoy a peach. Stop by Bianchini’s produce department this month to find California farm fresh peaches and many more delectable summer fruits. Check out our peach recipe collection, you might just find a new favorite!

Celebrate with a Big Slice!

This Sunday is extra sweet because it’s National Cheesecake Day! Every year on July 30th we celebrate one of the yummiest and creamiest foodie holidays. Here are two fun facts for National Cheesecake Day: the earliest form of cheesecake was traced to the 5th century B.C. on the Greek island of Samos. Fresh cheese that was pounded smooth and mixed with flour and honey. The main ingredient in modern cheesecake, cream cheese, was invented on accident by William Lawrence in 1872, when he was attempting to replicate the recipe for Neufchâtel, a soft French cheese.
