A spin on a New England favorite.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons olive oil
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 sweet onion, sliced
1 lb shaved steak
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
4 hoagie rolls
8 slices provolone cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to broil.
  2. Drizzle the olive oil into a large skillet. Bring to medium heat. Once hot, add the mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion. Saute until soft and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer the mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion to a plate. Tent with aluminum foil.
  3. Add the steak to the same skillet. Season with salt and black pepper.
  4. Cook and stir for about 5 minutes, until browned and cooked through.
  5. Layer a generous portion of cooked steak in each hoagie roll. Top the steak with mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion. Followed by two slices of provolone cheese.
  6. Arrange the sandwiches on a baking sheet and place them in the oven. Broil in the oven for 2-3 minutes, until the cheese has melted.
