August is National Peach Month, making it not only sweetest month of summer but the sweetest month of the year! Did you know that there are hundreds of varieties of peaches? Considered a luxury food at this time, peaches were enjoyed mainly by the emperor and royalty. Over the centuries, the peach made its way around the world by way of trade and gifts. Eventually arriving on the American shores around the 1500’s thanks to the voyages of Christopher Columbus. And since that time, the popularity of peaches have been on the rise. Leading to former president Ronald Reagan declaring August as National Peach Month in 1982.
