What’s not to love about mushrooms? They’re low in calories, cholesterol free, a good source of plant-based protein, rich with potassium, iron, copper, B-vitamins, and vitamins C & D. On top of being highly nutritious, mushrooms incredibly versatile. Enjoy them baked, sautéed, roasted, grilled, pan seared and even slow cooked. This may come as a surprise to many, October is National Pizza Month!

That’s right, 31 days of delicious pizza exploration! The first record of pizza dates back to 997 A.D. in Southern Italy. Very early pizzas were variations of focaccia bread with toppings or matzah bread with olive oil and cheese. While the pizza that we all know and love today was created around the 19th century in Naples, Italy, with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. Beckmann’s Old-World Bakery has been proudly baking high-quality artisan breads and pies in Santa Cruz since 1985.

Peter Breckmann got his start in when he apprenticed bread-making in Heidelberg, Germany in his younger days. He eventually made his move to the United States in 1982. The first commercial loaves of bread from Beckmann’s Old-World Bakery were baked in his kitchen and hand delivered by bicycle. Within a few short years, the business expanded and began to deliver to the neighboring cities of the Bay Area. Making deliveries to grocery stores, wholesalers and farmers markets. And as of 2002, Beckmann’s Old-Word Bakery is a Certified Organic bakery. Join us and sample Beckmann’s traditional pies this Saturday, 10/1, at both Bianchini’s locations. San Carlos location from 11am – 1pm and Portola Valley from 2pm – 4pm.

Fresh Baked Challah for Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah, The Jewish New Year, will begin the evening of Sunday, September 25th. Fresh baked round challah from local Woodside Bakery will be available at Bianchini’s on Saturday, September 24th. The circular shape of the bread symbolizes the hope that the New Year will be filled with many blessings. Woodside Bakery is a traditional European style “scratch” bakery that prepares everything in-house using of the highest quality ingredients available. Along with their famous challah, they specially bake a variety of other goods and delivers them to our Portola Valley and San Carlos stores daily. Stop by our bakery to pick up a delicious fresh baked round challah for you Rosh Hashanah celebration.

We Love Local, We Love Cheese!

Join us this week and taste delicious local artisan cheeses. All week long, we are hosting cheese tastings events for Fiscalini Farmstead Cheese, Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co. and Spring Hill Jersey Cheese.

Fiscalini Farmstead Cheese is a four-generation family owned and run dairy farm & cheese maker located in Modesto. Beginning with a 160-acre dairy farm in 1914 and expanding throughout the years, Fiscalini now operates a state-of-the-art cheese making facility that is only 30-feet from their milk parlor. This close proximity guarantees the milk is at peak freshness and gives each cheese an exceptional taste you won’t find anywhere else. Try Fiscalini Farmstead Cheeses at our San Carlos location on Saturday, 9/24, from 10am – 2pm.

Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co. is a multi-generation family run dairy farm that began making cheese in 2000. Located about 40 miles North of the Golden Gate Bridge, overlooking the Tomales Bay. Point Reyes uses sustainable farming practices, like, carbon sequestration to reduce greenhouse has emissions and a water recycling program to conserve the nutrient-rich pastures and surround land. Every Point Reyes cheese is carefully crafted and thoroughly checked by hand, ensuring they are the highest quality cheeses on the market. Spring Hill Jersey Cheese is located in Petaluma, California, and is part of the historic Petaluma Creamery dairy farm. Using the highest quality, freshest milk available, Spring Hill Jersey Cheese has a range of styles to choose from, like, classic yellow cheddar to spicy Firehouse Jack. Try Spring Hill Jersey Cheeses at our Portola Valley location on Wednesday, 9/21, from 9:30am – 12pm, and at our San Carlos location on Friday, 9/23, from 9:30am – 12pm.

Roxanne has been baking her famous biscotti for her family, friends and loyal fans for over 30-years. She uses only the freshest ingredients and locally sources them when available, ensuring that her small batches of biscotti and granola taste great each and every time. Join us this Thursday, 9/22, at our San Carlos location from 12pm – 4pm, and our Portola Valley location on Friday, 9/23, from 12pm – 4pm, to try Roxanne’s Biscotti.
