A Little Taste of New York
Have you heard? Carnegie Deli New York Corned Beef and Pastrami are now available at Bianchini’s Market! Create the sandwich of your dreams with these two all-time deli favorites. Carnegie’s corned beef is first cured and then simmered for hours low and slow until the meat is superbly tender, succulent and juicy. And their equally delicious pastrami is brined, seasoned and smoked according to a secret family recipe. Carnegie Deli was founded in 1937 by Milton Parker in Manhattan’s theater district. It wasn’t long before Carnegie Deli became the premier deli for celebrities, comics and entertainers to enjoy authentic New York sandwiches that were piled high with premium meats, often making the sandwich as big as a person’s head! Stop by your local Bianchini’s this week to find Carnegie Deli New York corned beef and pastrami. They are pre-sliced and fully cooked, simply heat and serve on toasty bread. Please join us on June 12th from 3-5 pm at our Portola Valley location and June 14th from 2-4 pm at our San Carlos location for a special sampling event for Carnegie Deli Pastrami and Corned Beef. We can’t wait for you to try this iconic New York deli staple.

Plan a Picnic for Dad this Father’s Day
As many of us know, this Sunday, June 18th, is Father’s Day. But did you know that this Sunday is also International Picnic Day? Double up and celebrate by treating dad to a delicious picnic spread. Pack a basket with all of his favorites and head out to a park or roll out a blanket in the backyard and enjoy the warm weather. Interestingly, picnics as an activity began after the French Revolution around 1789, when parks became open to everyone. About a decade later, the popularity of picnics spread to the British Isles, and the rest is history. Stop by Bianchini’s before the weekend to browse our excellent assortment of picnic-ready salads and sandwiches, fresh cut fruit and veggie trays, deli meats and specialty cheeses, yummy desserts, refreshing drinks, craft beers and wines. June is National Dairy Month
Here’s a quick history lesson to kick off National Dairy Month. The first U.S. patent for the milk bottle was submitted in 1884. By 1889, glass milk bottles were the standard due to their more sanitary nature. Because refrigeration was not in every household, milk was delivered and distributed daily door to door by a milk man. Straus Family Creamery, located in the small Northern California town of Marshall, continues the tradition of bottling their organic milk in glass bottles. The typical Straus glass milk bottle is returned to the creamery to be washed and sanitized and used again up to five times before being recycled. This effectively cuts down the total waste from dairy farm to dinner table. All Straus Family Creamery milk is non-homogenized, meaning that the cream naturally rises to the top giving the milk a fuller, richer flavor. Stop by Bianchini’s today to find Straus Family Creamery’s organic milk in glass bottles.

Have you Heard About Melinda Mae?
This is the final week of American Artisan Cheese Month, and to round out the occasion we are highlighting Melinda Mae from Mystic Cheese Company from Groton, Connecticut. Borrowing its name from the Shel Silverstein poem, Melinda Mae is a soft-ripened pale cheese that’s pillowy soft and smooth, similar to a brie. The edible bloomy rind has an almost button mushroom flavor that gives way to notes of sour cream and sweet cultured butter with a bright, lemony tang finish. Try pairing Melinda Mae with a fruity jam or honey to enhance the already delightful flavors of this soft cheese.

Versatile, Nutritious and Delicious!
Stop by our produce department to stalk up on fresh California asparagus and celebrate National Asparagus Day with us this Wednesday, May 24th. Often considered a luxury vegetable due to its short harvesting period, and now is the perfect time to enjoy this perennial vegetable. Asparagus has a long history of culinary use, with images from 3000 B.C. showing offerings o an Egyptian frieze. One of the earliest written recipes for asparagus dates back to 1 A.D. from Apicius’s De re coquinaria, Book III. And the arrival of asparagus in North America is due to European settlers that arrived as early as 1655. The best aspect of asparagus is that it’s suitable for a wide variety of recipes and cooking styles. It’s great when roasted, steamed, stir-fried, grilled, baked or pan seared. Try asparagus mixed into a salad, blended into a soup, whipped into a frittata, tossed into pasta or wrapped in bacon and cooked crispy to perfection. Strike Gold with Wagon Wheel
Our celebration of American Artisan Cheese Month continues with Cowgirl Creamery Wagon Wheel Cheese. An artisan cheese that was created by chefs for chefs, Wagon Wheel is as versatile as it is delicious. Great as a snack on its own or try it melted and poured over your favorite meal. Created in the rolling golden hills of California, Wagon Wheel gained the nick name of Liquid Gold when melted due to its luscious flavor and smooth, creamy texture. Crafted from organic cow milk and formed into 15 lb. wheels, the cheese is stored and aged for a minimum of 75 days. At room temperature, the taste is described as nutty and delicate. But when melted, it has notes of roasted garlic, salted brown butter, roasted leeks and heavy cream. Visit our cheese department to find Cowgirl Creamery Wagon Wheel and many other fine artisan cheeses.
