Crispy Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich





Serves 4 |
Homestyle comfort food at its best.
Ingredients:
| 4 chicken breasts |
| 1 cup buttermilk |
| Salt, to taste |
| Ground black pepper, to taste |
| 3/4 cup flour |
| 1 teaspoon Kosher salt |
| 1 teaspoon black pepper |
| 2 tablespoons powdered sugar |
| 2 eggs, beaten |
| 1/2 teaspoon onion powder |
| 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs |
| 1/2 teaspoon garlic power |
| 1/2 teaspoon paprika |
| Vegetable oil, for frying |
| 4 hamburger buns |
| Condiments, for topping |
Directions:
- Tenderize chicken breasts with a mallet. Liberally season the chicken with salt and pepper. Place the chicken in a resealable bag and add buttermilk. Let the chicken sit and marinate for about 4 hours.
- Arrange three bowls on your workspace. In the first bowl, combine the flour, Kosher salt, black pepper and powdered sugar. Place the eggs in the second bowl. And in the third bowl, combine the onion powder, panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder and paprika.
- Remove the chicken from the bag and allow the excess liquid to drip. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture. Dip the chicken into the egg bowl. Shake off excess and then dredge the chicken in the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat process with remaining chicken. Allow the chicken to sit for 15 minutes.
- Pour about 1/2-inch of vegetable oil into a large skillet. Bring to high heat. Once hot, place the chicken in the skillet to cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown. Place chicken on a wire rack to let excess oil drip.
- Place the chicken in the hamburger bun, top with condiments and enjoy!
